'Suspicious' substance at Argentinian Consulate in Sydney handed over to police
A suspected “suspicious” white powder found inside a parcel at the Consulate General of Argentina in Sydney’s CBD has been handed over to police for testing.
Fire and Rescue NSW crews, including specialised HAZMAT teams, attended the Consulate at 44 Market Street shortly after 9am this morning.
A FRNSW spokesperson told 9News.com.au that HAZMAT crews tested the substance for toxicity, finding it did not contain any toxins.
The substance has now been handed to NSW Police for further testing and identification.
Seven people assessed on the scene and cleared by NSW Ambulance for potential exposure to the substance.
the building was not evacuated while emergency crews responded to the incident.
