Iran calls Russia "perfect" partner: FM

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif described Russia as a very good political and trade partner for Iran, Tasnim news agency reported on Tuesday.

"Russia understands Iran very well, as Moscow itself has been slapped with strict U.S. sanctions," Zarif said.

According to Zarif, Washington is trying to mount pressure on Iran's neighbors to implement the anti-Tehran sanctions, however, such attempts would get nowhere.

Zarif also touched on the close cooperation among Iran, Russia and Turkey on the settlement of Syria's conflict.

He emphasized the necessity for reconstruction of Syria, restoration of unity and independence to the Arab country and removal of all the remaining terrorists.

Iran and Russia, as two major regional players, have allied to fight terrorism in Syria along with the Syrian army.
